need command prompt experts

Post by Strangelob on Thu Mar 24, 2011 3:35 pm

so the computers at school I use use network drives (H:\) to work, since its a school and lots of people use accounts. what i'm trying to do is run MC from the network drive, but of course that is tricky here are some screenshots of what the thing looks like:

H drive:

Appdata:

from here i tried to run the minecraft.bat, which i thought would make the file run (since i dont have access to the C drive the minecraft files downloaded to my H drive)

the .bat I tried to use is as follows (Note, i didnt write it. thats why i'm asking you guys for help :3):

at the "h" was originally a "c" i did that beause i thought that was the name of the drive.

here is a pic of the error i get when i run the file:

does anyone think they can help me? diamonds to the one who gets it right, if it's even possible!

Well, this picture looks like a Java message, and with my primitive knowledge of Java, I shall try to interpret it! Very Happy

I believe all of the -stuff things that take up most of the document are possible modifications/commands you can make to the batch file that will work properly and do something in Minecraft/Java, kind of like the different functions/lines you can have in LWC (-r modes, -p persist, etc)

Apparently, your garble crap isn't Java compatible (I think that's for internet stuff when you try to put in certain characters in code, etc). All Java needs is the file path like Bit said (H:\minecraft\Minecraft.exe)

That last bit in the end is an error message saying that Java/Command Line have no clue what the heck you're saying with the jumble crap, and it isn't a "legal" Java/Command Line command.

Like Bit said, I'd replace the jarbled mess with H:\minecraft\Minecraft.exe, because that's what's really supposed to happen, I think

Excuse me for any inaccurate information. I'm just 3/4 the way through the AP Computer Science course, and I'm just using previous computer knowledge plus what I've learned in APCS to piece together an assumption of what's going on D:

The machine needs a updated java version first of all.

Get the portable minecraft version on minecraft forums, that's your best bet then making a bat file.

Excuses. What you lack are simple problem solving skills. It clearly says "Unable to access jar file". Start there.

what i LACK is the knowledge of java and/or command line commands. i saw that it says that, and i thought about having the command line run the minecraft.jar, except for the fact that when i used to accidentally run the file by itself when modding, it said it was corrupt, therefore i thought that doing so would not work. happy now?

or are you going to tell me to go read up on it myself, since you don't seem to have the answer?
